Coronation Street stars spring welcome surprise!
Young people got the surprise of their lives at Emirates Old Trafford when two Coronation Street actors turned up to pay them a visit. Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley in the hugely popular soap, and Colson Smith who plays Craig Tinker, took time to pose for photographs and answer questions from the star-struck group from Screamin’ Wheels Youth Club in Partington.
The Club had won an indoor cricket competition specifically for youth and community groups from across Greater Manchester, organised by Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation. Staff from the Foundation visited each group and delivered a coaching session to show young people the basics of how to play the game. Equipment, and further coaching games and ideas, were left with youth leaders to further advance their group’s skills in the game and prepare them for the competition.
On the night, the majority of those who took part admitted they enjoyed learning and playing what was a new sport for them. The Screamin’ Wheels group also had the opportunity to experience batting in the nets which they agreed took them outside of their comfort zone and challenged them.
Colson Smith, who is an LCCC Foundation Ambassador, said, ‘The work of the Foundation provides new and exciting opportunities for people of all ages. It is true to its aim of Inspiring Communities through Cricket and I am proud to help raise their profile and support any of their activities when possible.’
The competition was organised as part of the Sporting Foundations for Life project. Delivered in conjunction with Salford Red Devils Foundation, City West Housing Trust and Trafford Housing Trust it has engaged almost 4,900 young people aged 14-25 over the last 2 years in a wide range of sports. Involving those participants in project design and delivery it ensures activities are what young people want.
