Foundations come together at Astley Sports Village

Forty children have benefitted from professional cricket coaching and advice in the first ever joint event by Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation and Manchester United Foundation, held at Astley Sports Village.
Lancashire and England bowler, and Chance to Shine Ambassador, Kate Cross, and Lancashire and England spinner Stephen Parry, passed on their cricketing knowledge to children on the ASV All Stars October Sports Camp and from local cricket clubs.  They were put through their paces in a number of drills and practices before showing their skills in games.  Stephen got some close-season practice in as well to clear the fence a couple of times against some testing bowling!
Commenting on the event, Dave Bardsley from Tameside Cricket Development Group, said, ‘This was an excellent opportunity for our youngsters to be inspired by these 2 cricketers.  With it being a local Dukinfield lad and a female England professional down made it more real for the children.’
Jen Laycock, Lancashire Cricket Board’s Women and Girls Development Officer added, ‘Having Kate available to work with girls through The Chance to Shine programme is invaluable as we work to broaden the reach of the women’s game.’
Robert Curran of Manchester United Foundation, who work closely Astley Sports College as a School Partner, added, ‘It’s always good to carry out activities with other sports clubs such as Lancashire County Cricket Club and the pupils have benefited massively from the event today. Not everyone is a football fan and having the opportunity to try their hand at activities such as cricket is important for allowing other sporting skills to develop.’
The charities attached to the two Old Trafford clubs have not previously worked together on such an initiative and it is hoped that this will be the first joint venture between the Foundations.
