LCCC Foundation supporting girls cricket in Greenfield

The LCCC Foundation, the charity and community arm of LCCC, are helping to support the development of girls cricket in Greenfield, Saddleworth through their Community Club Cricket Bat Donation Scheme. The recently formed girls section of Greenfield Cricket Club were presented with 6 brand new bats by LCCC’s Luis Reece at the Norman Heap Trophy, an annual event held at Greenfield Cricket Club for local junior schools and clubs to encourage interest in the sport.

The brand new cricket bats have been donated to help the club to upgrade its stock of training equipment and cater for the growing number of new participants.

Sandy Mitchell, Head of Community Development for the LCCC Foundation said “We are delighted to be providing Greenfield Cricket Club with new bats to help to support their junior girls provision. Cricket bats are expensive bits of kit and anything we can do to help remove that barrier and encourage more young girls to take up or stick with the sport is truly worth doing”.

Jenny Laycock, Women & Girls Cricket Development Officer said  'We are seeing a real interest with local clubs developing girls cricket and with the National team being successful and increased media the game is benefiting. With the support of schemes like this it will enable more girls to access cricket, use up to date equipment and hopefully love the game!'
