World Champion Takes on Lanky

By day Natasha Sweeney-Meadowcroft (19) is a Young Ambassador for the Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation  but by night is a powerhouse in Thai Boxing. Natasha is the International British Champion, the International British, UK WKA and the North West Champion for her weight category (51kg) and today she took on Lancashire County Cricket Club’s mascot Lanky in the lead up to her next fight.

The Foundation has also recruited Natasha as their first apprentice and continues to support her work as a Young Ambassador where she uses the power of sport to encourage others to take up sport, volunteering and healthier lifestyles.  Natasha teaches Thai Boxing, cricket and rugby and a variety of other sports each week at schools in the community. Natasha’s next title fight - Clash at the Cresta 6 - is on the 17th February and is against 28yr old Vicky Woulfe where she is hoping to take home her next title.  Natasha took on Lanky on the Old Trafford pitch today as part of her 7 day training regime in the lead up to the fight.

Natasha said ‘Lanky was a great opponent; he has an advantage being so tall but he still didn’t knock me out! I’m looking forward to my next title fight against Vicky and really hoping for a win. Another title belt would be great to show off to all the kids I teach, I hope it’s really inspiring for them to show that one day they could also be a World Champion!’

Michelle Carney, LCCC Foundation Director said: ‘We are so proud of Natasha and are privileged to have her as part of our team. She is an incredible role model for young people and is a fantastic Young Ambassador for the Foundation. Natasha is already making a huge impact in her role as an activity leader through an apprenticeship scheme and is inspiring hundreds of young people through our school programme. We are really looking forward to seeing her competing in her next title fight and would urge people to come out and support her’

Natasha is then heading out to Thailand in March to compete with the England squad; she is the only female squad member and also the only team member without a sponsor. If you would be interested in sponsoring Natasha please contact
