Girls Without Boundaries Programme

Girls Without Boundaries Programme

A project designed to inspire disengaged young women and build confidence through a combination of mixed martial arts, self-defence using music and dance.

Over a 6 week period the girls are introduced to a range of basic Thai-boxing and self-defence moves and then work together as a group to incorporate these moves into their own unique dance routine.

Each wave of the programme will conclude with a dance off between the school groups for the honour of performing their routine live at a Lancashire game.  ‘Girls Without Boundaries’ is open to girls from Year 7 to 9’s.

On Monday 13th March 2017, the LCCC Foundation held their second competition based at Emirates Old Trafford.  Natasha from the LCCC Foundation, worked with 10 schools towards this competition over a 6 month period, all 10 schools plus parents, guardians, family and friends were invited to attend the competition to support and watch the young women what they had learnt throughout their journey.

We had over 220 attendees who really enjoyed the Girls without Boundaries competition.  The support from each school towards each other was fantastic. They were supported by each other and also  scored each other along with the judges.  We were also lucky to have a special guest to judge the young women on the day, Colson Smith (aka Craig Tinker) from Coronation Street who was really keen to support the young women throughout their journey and who thought all girls were amazing!

After a fun day we were left with two winners, Stretford High School won the Best Performance on the day.  Stretford High were given medals, certificates and a trophy for their school.  They were also invited to perform on a T20 cricket game on the pitch before the game of play.   The other winners were St Antony’s Catholic College, who won the Girls without Boundaries competition.  They were given medals, certificates, and a shield engraved with their school name.  They were also offered a date to perform their routine on the pitch at a T20 game before play.

St Antony’s Catholic College won Girls without Boundaries last year, their first ever event at Emirates Old Trafford and continue to hold the shield for another year.

Well done to all the girls who took part for all their hard work and dedication and thank you for everyone’s support towards the Girls without Boundaries project!
